Position: Research Technician, Greenhouse/Field Location: CAENS/GWCAES
Status: Full-time: Exempt

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain plants in greenhouse/plant growth chambers and experiment fields
Fertilizing, watering, pruning (Muscadine grape, Blueberries)
Assist with the layout of field experiment, mulching, planting, cultivating, weeding, sample collection, and harvesting
Provide leadership and work with farm staff to clean greenhouse bays/growth chambers and plant growing benches free of plant debris and other waste materials weekly
Maintain proper irrigation of all greenhouse/growth chamber crops, spot watering when needed.
Evaluate crops for insects and disease and able to apply pesticides and treatments.
Monitor plant development to evaluate growth and quality.
Learn to be precise in care of plants
Maintain simple records of growth and production where necessary
Monitor greenhouse/growth chamber growing conditions such as humidity, moisture, and temperature.
Must be adaptable to changing priorities and varied responsibilities
Supervise student assistants assigned to work in the greenhouse and or the field
Willingness to perform duties assigned by your immediate supervisor, Dean, and/or Director/Associate Director of the experiment station with a quick turnaround.
Weekend and holiday work may be required, such as watering plants
Perform all other duties as assigned
Bachelor or Masters of Science degree in Plant and Soil Science or Agricultural Sciences
Experience in conducting research
Ability to communicate orally and to be able to write manuscripts
Must be able to lift at least 50lbs load without difficulty
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Experience working with plants
Additional Desirable Qualifications
Masters degree preferred
Be able to statistically analyze research data
Commensurate with education, training, and experience: Position is contingent upon outside funding.
Additional Position Information:
This position require weekend and after work hours’ job responsibilities during peak season
You will be required to do local and out of state traveling
