Position Announcement

Under the direction of the Supervisor - Electrical Operations, the Electrician will maintain, repair and install all electrical systems, insuring good operation of all power and lighting systems. The position will be filled by either a level II or III Electrician depending on qualifications.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses electrical equipment and/or systems to safely isolate/identify any problems. Operates diagnostic equipment such as voltmeter, amp meter, etc. Collects information, defines and determines tools, materials and equipment needed to most efficiently perform job.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints/plans for both new construction and remodeling. Maintains national, state and local electrical code requirements.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and thermal imaging of electrical equipment.
  • Repairs and replaces necessary parts/components to ensure safe operation of power and/or lighting systems.
  • Determines best possible approach to the job to ensure safe procedures and install electrical systems.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma plus two years of directly related experience to the summary of duties or any combination of education and/or experience is required.

Requires a general knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment and materials used within the electrician's trade.

Appropriate licensing is required.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities


  • Knowledge of electrical, construction or maintenance type of work.
  • Knowledge of local, state and national codes including fire, safety and electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of skills related to those of an electrician.


  • Skill in electrical maintenance work.
  • Skill in calculating power, lighting loads for transformers and conductors.
  • Skill in troubleshooting safety and accurately using meters, diagrams and common sense.


  • Ability to maintain a good relationship with general public, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to function with dexterity and safety.
  • Ability to read, write and follow directions.
  • Ability to works with voltage up to 12,047.
