Kean University has a rich and diverse exhibition program. Exhibits integrate the visual arts, archival collections and various academic programs throughout the university. The Liberty Hall Academic Center Gallery showcases historical events and influential figures and the Karl and Helen Burger Gallery highlights cultural issues that are interdisciplinary in nature. The Human Rights Institute Gallery features shows related to human rights violations and victories around the world. The Nancy Dryfoos Gallery is a strong venue for regional artists and alumni exhibitions. As an educational resource, we regularly feature the work of faculty and students in the James Howe Gallery. At Kean University, we believe that art can be an effective vehicle for social change and in building awareness of critical world issues.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Liberty Hall Academic Center, the Gallery Program Manager and Registrar (Managing Assistant Director III) is responsible for assisting with the management of all work operations of the Kean University Galleries. The Gallery Program Manager and Registrar develops policies and procedures; assists with the creation of specialized exhibition programming that effectively coordinates and interfaces with diverse areas of study throughout Kean University and diverse public audiences; and does related work as required.
This position requires a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. Travel may be required.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in museum and/or gallery operations or arts management is required. A professional degree in one or more of the following areas is preferred: museum studies, art history, fine arts and/or public administration. Professional experience managing galleries in higher education and professional training in the unique care, presentation and handling of valuable art objects is also preferred.
