University Development and Alumni Relations, formerly named University Relations, increases support for and enhances knowledge of UC Berkeley through communications, public outreach, and fundraising. The department is responsible for centralized fundraising and donor engagement, and works to strengthen unit development offices by consulting and partnering with campus fundraisers. University Development and Alumni Relations also handles a range of central activities and services encompassing events, communications, stewardship, prospect development, gift management, database management, and more.
University Development and Alumni Relations encompasses the UC Berkeley Foundation (UCBF), a California nonprofit public benefit corporation established to secure support for the University. The UCBF is also Cal's primary vehicle for enlisting fundraising volunteers from the private sector. The UCBF is staffed by University Development and Alumni Relations leadership.
Donor and Gift Services provides an end-to-end spectrum of service that picks up from the point of donor solicitation and follows a philanthropic gift through documentation of donor intent, processing and acceptance, fund creation and management, and donor acknowledgment and recognition. It has delegated authority to accept gifts on behalf of the UC Berkeley Foundation and the UC Regents, has administrative responsibility for all private charitable contributions to UC Berkeley, representing cash and pledges of over $600 million annually, and manages over 10,000 active current use, capital, and endowed gift funds. As an active advocate for donor interests, Donor and Gift Services manages an array of programs that acknowledge and recognize donors in meaningful ways, report to them on the impact of their philanthropy, and deepen their engagement with the campus. Donor and Gift Services is comprised of three teams - Gift Services, Fund Management, and Donor Recognition.
As a member of the Fund Management team within Donor and Gift Services in University Development and Alumni Relations, the Endowment Reporting Coordinator is responsible for supporting the fund management program through the coordination and execution of campus-wide endowment impact reporting programs. Comprised of over 4,400 individual funds, Berkeley's endowment has a market value of approximately $4 Billion and provides over $100 Million to the campus for expenditure each year. Berkeley's endowment supports the most pressing campus needs including faculty retention, research, student financial aid, and teaching.
- Involves activities associated with reaching, serving, and engaging external constituencies through programs, products, and services not primarily related to fundraising.
- Constituencies include alumni, local community, government, parents, as well as the general public.
- Translates constituent needs and priorities into customized programs to create, enhance, and sustain relationships between the campus and its external constituencies.
- Uses institutional knowledge and awareness of constituency perception to assist the fund management team in implementing short and long-term strategic plans, programs, events, and activities that are related to the stewardship of Berkeley's 4,400+ endowment funds.
- Establishes and maintains contacts across campus to partner on the implementation of existing stewardship programs and activities that engage external constituencies around the impact of student, faculty and programmatic endowments.
- May support all aspects of complex external relations programs, projects, and events, including coordinating special programs and contributing to the production of written and visual materials as they relate to communicating with external audiences on the use and impact of Berkeley's endowment. For example, this position aids in executing the campus-wide reporting programs that demonstrate to donors that their endowments are having beneficial effects on the campus's students, faculty, and programs. This is not limited to but including annual scholarship and fellowship reporting and endowed chair reporting, which entails working with fund beneficiaries to gather and process information.
- Maintains records and other duties related to the reporting program such as editing beneficiary writing, posting contact reports to the campus's advancement database, sending report notifications to campus colleagues, and tracking communications with donors, beneficiaries, and campus colleagues. This position is responsible for helping the Fund Management team to articulate the impact of the campus' over 2,000 endowed scholarship and fellowships, as well as the impact of 450 endowed chairs across campus.
- Quickly and appropriately identifies, addresses, and mitigates unforeseen and/or rapidly unfolding events that may negatively impact relationships between the campus and various constituencies, keeping senior management appropriately advised and notified.
- May mentor less experienced staff members and student assistants.
- Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data, reporting findings, interpreting results and/or making recommendations. For example, works with the fund management team to compile and mail annual scholarship and fellowship reports, and assists with creating and mailing annual endowed chair reports.
- Responds to constituent inquiries as they relate to the use and importance of endowment funds, and the impact of scholarship, fellowship, and faculty support for the campus.
- Establishes a standard of customer service to ensure exemplary support to internal and external constituents.
- Thorough knowledge of the campus, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements, issues of concern, and infrastructure, or ability to learn.
- Thorough knowledge of the campus' endowment and its support of students, faculty, and programs, or ability to learn.
- Thorough knowledge of issues of concern in higher education.
- Thorough knowledge of practices and procedures associated with building and maintaining effective working relationships with all levels of internal and external constituencies.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including skill to edit and produce information that is appropriately presented for target constituencies.
- Active listening skills, including advanced critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Skill to recognize potential areas of constituency concern and address, resolve and/or mitigate problems or issues.
- Skill in project management, including event planning and meeting deadlines.
- Experience using and maintaining spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel.
- Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, G Suite, and other common desktop/web applications.
Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
