The Asian American Center (AAC) was founded in 1983 as a space and resource for Tufts students and community members to foster a supportive environment for the academic and personal development of Asian and Asian American students.

Asian American Center recognizes the diversity within the Asian American identity and other intersecting identities in the Tufts community, and advocates for students to have a successful college experience.

In collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and alumni, the AAC coordinates year-round programs and offers resources for the transition to college, provides social opportunities to learn from and engage with peers, and informs students of campus events and opportunities. The AAC is part of the Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion (DSDI) which aims to center diversity, inclusion, and equity issues on campus to support historically marginalized communities.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Director of the Asian American Center, the Program Administrator serves as a campus resource and works to educate the community on the issues affecting the Asian and Asian American community. The program coordinator will help advise the Peer Leader Program. The Peer Leader Program is one of the AAC’s signature programs. It helps first-year and transfer students with peer support as they navigate their first year on campus.

The Program administrator will work with the director of the Asian American Center in planning and implementing these events. Overall, the Program Administrator will work very closely with the staff to develop a comprehensive infrastructure that effectively supports the growth and advancement of the Asian American Center. This individual will assist the Director in overseeing the successful implementation of departmental operations, aligning the mission of the AAC with the strategic planning efforts of the Associate Dean of Diversity & Inclusion, the schools of Arts and Sciences, and Engineering.

The Program Administrator at the Asian American Center will play an integral role in programs at the Asian American Center focusing on the themes of community engagement, and student support within the context of Asian American student life on campus.

This is a hybrid position. This position requires regular on campus in-person interactions as well as availability outside of regularly scheduled hours for specific events and emergency response.

What We're Looking For

Knowledge & Skills as Typically Acquired Through Bachelor's Degree
 or Related Experience 2+ years


Preferred Requirements:
• Master’s Degree, preferably in higher education, counseling, social work, Asian American Studies, or related fields
• Strong background in Asian American studies and/or studies in critical race theory, and a nuanced understanding of various models for identity-based resource centers; an understanding of the cultural constructions of race as it intersects with gender, class, ethnicity, sexual identity, religion, ability, and other salient identities.
• Ability to work independently, and part of a team; proven ability to develop and maintain productive, collegial working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff and alums
• Experience working with creating programs centered on equity, justice, diversity, and inclusion
• Experience supporting college students in a co‚Äźcurricular setting
• Demonstrated experience leading dialogue about identity, inclusion, and social justice
• A deep awareness of issues and concerns relevant to the Asian American community
• A commitment to creating an inclusive community at the Asian American Center
• A collaborative and creative approach to the work of student affairs•
