Overview

The scholarship and teaching in the Department of History promotes a diversity of approaches and ways of understanding the past. From the history of medicine to labor and migrant histories, to transnational and global approaches, to the study of gender and sexuality, to histories of everyday life and material culture, our courses challenge students to analyze historical material. In addition to our undergraduate major, minor, and MA and PhD programs, we enroll large numbers of students seeking to fulfill distribution requirements for graduation, requirements for interdisciplinary programs such as International Relations, or are simply interested in the subject matter. 


What You'll Do

Under minimal supervision, the Administrative Assistant provides advanced administrative support and communications for the department. The Administrative Assistant will handle the below duties:

  • Manage complex and confidential situations and requests and serve in a highly visible capacity as resource for department with students, staff, faculty, and other constituents.
  • Oversee daily operation of office, evaluating workflow and productivity and providing direction and guidance to office staff.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a High School diploma/GED and 5+ years of administrative experience OR a Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including word processing, editing and graphics functions, spreadsheet and database knowledge. I
  • Bookkeeping or basic accounting knowledge and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Will be trained in Drupal, R25, Canvas, Box, SIS, Apptricity, Qualtrics, Slate and online Facilities requests.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

This is a hybrid position expected to be in person at least 2 days each week.
