Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for Social Sciences, the Program Manager of the Graduate Programs in Economics is responsible for the administration and advancement of the MS in International and Development Economics (IDEC) program and the MS in Applied Economics (MSAE) graduate programs. In consultation with the Economics Department Chair, Economics Graduate Faculty Directors, and Economics Department faculty, the Program Manager will also work to maintain, improve and create new graduate program initiatives.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Recruitment and Admissions:
  • Manage recruitment for the graduate programs, including answering program inquiries and leading information meetings and other events.
  • Manage development of marketing campaigns and materials as well as communications media, in coordination with the Director of Graduate Admissions.
  • Supervise and participate in the application and admissions process.

Academic/Student Support:
  • Facilitate and plan the academic advising process in conjunction with Faculty Directors, and ensure the smooth administration of student registration.

  • Facilitate student success including organizing student orientation events, monitoring the academic progress of students, organizing student-centered events, and managing degree completion process.
  • Work with the Faculty Directors to coordinate summer students, including international field research and internships, and in cultivating relationships with hosts/sponsors.
  • Work closely with field research coordinators and contracts.
  • Work closely with the USF Center for Global Education when MS IDEC students complete their summer field research abroad.
  • Conduct exit interviews with graduating students and prepare a report

for department feedback.

  • Manage alumni tracking and alumni services for the graduate programs in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Relations.
  • Serve as a member of the University Graduate Admission Council and attend College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Program Directors meetings.
  • Maintain and develop websites, newsletters and other communications media for the department.
  • Manage program budgets, including scholarship allocations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area, Masters degree highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting professional or graduate educational programs.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with students from a diverse array of backgrounds, including and especially experience working with international students. Familiarity with immigration regulations concerning foreign students desirable.
  • Demonstrated success in overseeing complex administrative systems and the ability to interact with a variety of different administrative departments.
  • Ability to understand and maintain budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Office computing skills.
  • Knowledge and utilization of social media.
  • Willingness to travel to help establish and maintain relationships with partner institutions.
  • Ability to travel to recruitment fairs and to work in the evenings if required to service graduate student events.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to spearhead large projects and see them through to completion.
  • Experience collaborating across departments/programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working with data spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity with the academic economics discipline.
  • Professional networks with international development organizations or in the Bay Area tech sector.
