The Professional Schools region (ProS) serves the University Extension, Berkeley Law, Goldman School of Public Policy, Haas School of Business, School of Optometry, School of Public Health, Graduate School of Education, School of Social Welfare and the School of Journalism.

Responsibilities

The Research Administrator 2 is an essential member of the RA team supporting the Berkeley Regional Services ProS Region. The ProS Region supports University Extension and eight professional schools on the UC Berkeley campus including: Haas School of Business; Goldman School of Public Policy; School of Optometry; Berkeley Law; School of Public Health; School of Social Welfare; Graduate School of Education; and the Graduate School of Journalism. The ProS Region is replete with distinguished faculty, innovative academic programs and highly professional and collaborative staff. Research administration professionals within the ProS Region provide the full range of pre-award and post-award support services to their clients, in close collaboration with the Sponsored Projects Office (SPO), Industry Alliances Office (IAO), Extramural Funds Accounting (EFA), and other central compliance groups.

The Research Administrator 2 position within BRS supports Principle Investigators (PI) and Principle Directors (PD) by providing analytical and financial support in proposal processing, contract and grant administration, and budget development, including pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local and private sponsors. This work will involve activities associated with forecasting, planning, and managing of research portfolios by performing some or all of the following: coordinating and identifying and developing and/or presenting proposals, contracts and other agreements; reviewing proposals to ensure institutional compliance; administering and monitoring contract and grant awards, including compliance with regulations, terms and conditions; financial management and reporting; and sub award/subcontract administration.

The Research Administrator 2 will report to and receive assignments from the Contracts and Grants Supervisor 2. The incumbent will work with the supervisor to ensure a balanced workload. The incumbent will work with senior research administrators to resolve complex issues and gain a better understanding of the research administration function in a university setting and within BRS.

Required Qualifications
  • Requires independent judgment and strong organization and communication skills and customer service focus.
  • Knowledgeable in applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Knowledgeable in applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, et cetera.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability on analyze and interpret data.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply guidelines and policies.
  • Proficiency working with computer and information management systems. Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships and partner with other departments in the campus community.
  • Excellent initiative, organization skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to participate and contribute as a member of a team in support of unit goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.


Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years' experience in working with student funding, human resources/payroll, contracts and grants, or equivalent related experience.


Salary & Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is $26.34 - $31.13 / hour.
