The role of the New England Regional Biosafety Laboratory (NERBL) is to support advanced infectious disease research. The NERBL provides biocontainment laboratory and animal accommodation facilities to investigators from academia as well as industry partners engaged in the development and validation of preventives and interventions targeted to infectious disease.

What You'll Do

This position will provide excellent husbandry and care to a wide variety of research animals. The candidate must be committed to the humane handling and care of animals used in research and be able to provide services to a variety of research investigators. This position will acquire and maintain qualifications to work with ABSL2 and ABSL3 animals and perform technical support for both levels of containment. Must be medically fit to use N95, PAPR, or other respirator. The successful candidate will have to pass FBI and local background checks to be authorized to work with select agents.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent and 1+ years of prior experience with animals either in a research or veterinary setting. Should be comfortable using Microsoft Windows programs including Word, Excel, Power point, e-mail network. Position involves heavy lifting (ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation) frequent pushing and pulling of heavy equipment standing for long periods and use of autoclaves and cage washers. Valid US Drivers License.


Preferred Qualifications:

Related Associates Degree, vocational training or AALAS certification preferred. Additional familiarity with research settings including all applicable federal and state regulations and guidelines would be preferred. The candidate should also be able to assist in maintaining inventory of consumables, routine equipment maintenance and attention to facilities.


Special Work Schedule Requirements:

Weekend and holiday hours may be required.
