Departmental Overview
The Lawrence Hall of Science is UC Berkeley's public science center and a leading provider of science and mathematics educational materials and methods, professional learning programs for educators, and hands-on learning experiences. The Lawrence is committed to providing access to high-quality, effective science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning experiences for all, especially those traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.
Job Summary
The Digital Marketing Specialist supports the branding, marketing, and communications efforts to increase program attendance and participation and generate revenue from various sources, including educational program sales, retail merchandise, membership, individual and corporate donations, and sponsorships.
This individual has great digital content, publications, and social media instincts to help build and execute our media strategy, driving engagement and organizational results. The Digital Marketing Specialist will develop, manage and produce digital content for The Lawrence's social media channels, digital signage, and website. They will work with advertisers and sponsors and provide marketing support to various programs and products. They will analyze audiences, develop programs, services, and outreach to meet identified needs, and influence public perception.
This individual has excellent communication skills and is comfortable giving and receiving feedback. They have a client-service approach when partnering with diverse colleagues, including administrators, staff, researchers, student assistants, and museum visitors. They may also assist in managing media (press, television, radio) and vendors.

Responsibilities
- Produces compelling content using internal data and leveraging external trends to increase engagement of existing audiences and acquire new audiences to achieve revenue and fundraising goals. Drafts narratives like a storyteller and designs creative for marketing projects or programs featured on websites, social media platforms, digital signage, advertisements, et cetera. Produces photo and video shoots, manages and edits digital footage, curates photography, and acts as Marketing's liaison to the multi/digital media team. Publishes content on the website's CMS, email marketing provider, social media channels, and event calendars to ensure information is efficiently and effectively disseminated.
- Conducts organic and paid digital campaigns with staff and marketing team's input, manages schedules and contributors' submissions, and oversees Google Ads and Meta Suite. Works with advertising vendors and creative partners to effectively market programs. Optimizes campaigns, tracks results, and provides regular reporting.
- Under general supervision, responsible for consistent, quality creative assets and posts that are on brand, including web assets, advertisements, brochures, flyers, digital and traditional signage, presentations, tabletop displays, etc. In addition to grammar and style guide adherence, ensures all final materials have been proofed and reviewed by necessary stakeholders, appropriate sponsorship credit lines are included as contractually obligated, and details such as contact information, event times, and dates are accurate and consistent.
- Conducts basic market research, through surveys, A-B testing, etc., and generates and uses marketing intel in campaigns and reporting. Researches and analyzes competitors' programs and innovative methods for generating awareness and building an audience of visitors and educators, presenting findings and plans as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned, including: professional learning (participating in training, workshops, seminars, continuing education pertinent to the position, or at the suggestion of the supervisor); creating/maintaining marketing files, records, calendars, logs, and related documents; may train, mentor, and supervise student assistant(s).
- Prepares billing paperwork and provides accounting support as required to ensure vendors are paid on time as promised.
- Ensures good customer service through providing appropriate information to answer questions and explain basic products and services.
Required Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, strategies and best practices.
- Working knowledge of, or ability to quickly develop an understanding of The Lawrence Hall of Science including its achievement, mission, vision, goals, objectives, products and services.
- Knowledge of the campus and / or medical center including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.
- Knowledge of customer service standards / procedures.
- Organizational skills and skills in file creation, maintenance and management.
- Written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $67,000-$86,000.00
