Job Description Summary:
Designs and develops website user interfaces for the Austin Community College main website and subsidiary sites that follow ACC web and brand guidelines and requirements.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

  • Collaborates with backend developers, user experience designers, web analytics specialists, content developers, system administrators, and others to produce and deploy website user interface designs that enhance ACC’s public-facing website content and provide a brand forward, positive user experience. 
  • Ensures quality and consistency through content components as well as technical and usability compliance with state and federal accessibility requirements. 
  • Designs, develops, and distributes content component standards to ensure consistency and accessibility across various platforms at the college.
  • Assists in prioritizing software development projects, setting timelines, and assigning tasks to team members.
  • May be asked to lead, support, manage, and supervise the daily workflow of web production staff.
  • Collaborates with cross-college teams to function as the web-based visual brand management expert and contribute to the formulation of web design policies and procedures that protect the college brand.


  • Knowledge of user interface principles, including intuitive navigation schemes, accessibility, and usability.
  • Advanced knowledge of UX principles and best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of the fundamental methods, theories, and practices that form the basis of UI design.
  • Advanced knowledge of web design, web typography, and color principles.
  • Knowledge of common web CMS technologies and how web design is implemented within these environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of the presentational languages of websites including HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  • Advanced knowledge of mobile and web user experience and user interaction design.

*Skills *

  • Proficient in producing visually appealing and brand forward web designs utilizing UX research, wireframing, and mock-up technologies. 
  • Proficient in project management techniques and team management
  • Proficient in producing high-quality, front-end code bases via HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for various web frameworks including but not limited to the WordPress CMS code base.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design and prototyping tools.
  • Able to communicate with clients and stakeholders intended functions of elements to be incorporated into finished products. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effectively using interpersonal communication, including tact and diplomacy.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

Technology Skills

  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.

Required Work Experience

  • Three years related work experience.

Preferred Work Experience

  • Three years experience in web and UI design

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s<h1></h1>

Full-time faculty and staffing table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the college are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty and Administrators Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal law.
