Tufts Dining is a self-operated food service provider managing a comprehensive collegiate food service program on the Tufts University Medford-Somerville campus delivering high quality, contemporary and innovative food and hospitality services to meet the various needs of students, faculty, staff and visitors in a fiscally responsible manner. Our team operates a progressive resident dining program for approximately 3500 students as well as innovative retail services and a distinctive university catering program serving the campus community totaling 4300 undergraduates, 1200 graduate students and 2300 faculty and staff.

Job Summary:

The Catering Service Manager reports to the Unit Manager-Tufts Catering and will be primarily responsible for the effective management of the banquet, event and delivery services for Tufts Catering. S/He will participate as a member of the unit and department management team providing leadership and program execution in the areas of daily food service operations, customer service, quality control, food service sanitation, housekeeping, food merchandising and the planning and execution of assigned catered events and deliveries. S/He will monitor and direct operating procedures, schedule and supervise hourly staff and provide on going coaching and training to ensure the highest level of service. S/He will be responsible for compliance with department quality standards, program goals, financial targets and all Tufts University and Dining Services policies and procedures. Tufts Catering operates the Mugar Café and other ancillary services for which this position may be assigned supervisory responsibilities.


Basic Requirements:

Years of related experience required: 5-7 years in high volume catering

Associates Degree

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors degree preferred;

Experience planning and executing events for a high-volume off-site caterer, university or in a hotel environment;

2-3 years of experience scheduling and supervising staff, preferably catering staff;

Ability to effectively communicate with a Spanish speaking work force;

Experience with responsible alcohol service and a knowledge of wines and cocktails;

Culinary experience in high-end catering service or restaurants
