The primary function of the position is to a) design and maintain scientific/research databases, b) provide computer programming support, and c) other related duties to achieve success in research projects for the Center of Clinical Research.

  • Analyzes scientific research projects to determine the best programming approach, determining which
    programming language and or statistical software package system should be used.
  • Assists Center staff in fulfilling its "honest broker" function by designing and implementing data deidentification
    procedures and performs other data-related activities required to meet data confidentiality
    and related requirements.
  • Create databases using various computer application to collect, manipulate, and present data in support
    of various research projects supported by the Center for Clinical Research. Steps in this process include: o Interviewing users o Translating user needs o Analyzing specifications o Designing logic o Writing code o Testing and debugging programs o Implementing and providing ongoing support
  • Develops methods of downloading data from national data banks into locally designed databased in
    order to manipulate data to meet needs of specific research project.
  • Develops detailed documentation of programs and procedures to assist others in developing and
    maintaining systems.
  • Conducts applied research into new/emerging technologies and software application to remain current
    with technology.
  • Provides technical advice to faculty and research personnel concerning aspects of computers and
    programs related to research projects.
  • Provides other related technical support as needed.
  • Present lectures on use of research datasets
