Job Summary

This position is 12 month, full-time position and reports to the Director of Athletics. Responsibilities include directing, organizing and administering all aspects of the NCAA Division III Athletic Novice and Varsity Crew Team program including: adhering to all NCAA and NEWMAC conference and institutional policies; recruitment and retention of student athletes; and equipment repair and management. The facility manager will direct all aspects of the daily operations of the William J. Holmes Sports & Fitness Center.

Responsibilities

Conduct all official practices and games:
  • Create and conduct first year orientation novice rowing clinic;
  • Conduct pre-season, traditional season and off-season practice schedules;
  • Set competitive regatta schedule and conduct regatta day events and coaching;
  • Teach individual skills and race strategy;
  • Mange team travel training trips;
  • Perform semi-annual water safety program and athlete swim test;
  • Supervise Novice and Assistant Coaches and oversee novice program;
  • Ensure all sports medicine and medical clearance processes;
  • Conduct fundraising activities to partially fund spring break training trip;
  • Manage all race day operations; submit team entries, organize equipment transport, etc;
  • Attend coaches and conference scheduling/meetings;
  • Manage all equipment repair, upkeep and propose replacement schedule.


Coordinate recruitment/retention process of student athletes in accordance with NCAA guidelines and Simmons University academic standards.
  • Attend Admissions open house and reception recruitment events;
  • Contact recruits by telephone, email and written communications throughout the recruitment process (July- May);
  • Organize on campus overnight recruiting visits;
  • Scout rowing clubs and/or athletic events for high school athletes;
  • Conduct mini-rowing clinics in conjunction with freshman summer orientation program;
  • Provide Student athletes with on campus student service resources;
  • Counsel student athletes;
  • Assist student athletes through on campus processes.


Prepare team budget requests
  • Submit team budget request;
  • Submit team fundraising proposals for expenses and fundraising activities;
  • Manage team fundraising activities;
  • Submit team deposits;
  • Maintain a balanced team fund account.


Maintain All Rowing equipment
  • Maintain coaches' launches and motors;
  • Maintain boat trailer;
  • Maintain van/truck vehicle, hitch & lights;
  • Maintain Cox boxes; oars, and shells;
  • Maintain Sports Center rowing tanks;
  • Maintains rowing ergometers and weights;
  • Direct off-season shell & equipment storage.


Performance of public relations and promotion of their specific sport
  • Organize post game parent receptions;
  • Serve as conference sport chair positions;
  • Serve on campus committees;
  • Attend Student Life Division meetings and socials.


Manage Sports Center facilities maintenance
  • Maintain facility;
  • Coordinate/prepare equipment repair/maintenance contract;
  • Oversee equipment and facility repair and upkeep;
  • Manage Commuter locker program;
  • Coordinate with Athletic staff to conduct equipment repair.


Supervision Received:
  • Reports to the Director of Athletics


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required and/or related work experience;
  • Driver's license required;
  • Ability to travel both regionally and nationally;
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends;
  • Ability to drive boat trailer;
  • Ability to repairs crew equipment;
  • Previous coaching and playing experience required; preferably at the collegiate level;
