The Clinical Sciences faculty (~60) has teaching and clinical responsibilities to the veterinary students and hospital respectively, as well as individual research pursuit and administrative obligations. Approximately 60 residents and interns, matched through the national VIRMP program rotate through the department/hospital on three and one-year cycles, respectively. The administrative staff supports the faculty, residents and interns, the Chair and Department Manager. The department has a large budget and many discretionary and research accounts.
The Staff Assistant position supports faculty primarily in their teaching activities. Most faculty members in this department perform clinical service, as well as teach and conduct research. Faculty support includes, but is not limited to, accurate and timely production of course syllabi; uploading homework assignments currently using TUSK; exams using ExamSoft software; supporting faculty in their use of Appricity to receive travel and business reimbursements; ordering items through the department p-card and electronic requisitioning system; and assisting with office machine maintenance. Other requirements are to: effectively communicate with all customers (faculty, staff, students, and outside individuals) in a pleasant and efficient manner to represent the department and school in a professional and welcoming fashion; assist and provide training in acquired or newly learned skills to other staff, while willing to learn new systems, software and processes; attend to detail, demonstrate a strong knowledge of Excel and Word, and general computer skills. Demonstrate ability to multi-task and prioritize work while meeting deadlines in a busy environment. Accept other assignments from the department manager and/or chair as projects are identified.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent computer skills, especially in Word and Excel.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in written and verbal expression.
Ability to lift up to 15 lbs. with or without accommodation.
College education preferred.
Familiarity with Outlook and Adobe.
Preference given to individual with prior work experience in an educational setting.
