Departmental Overview

Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Sciencethe country's only science center that is part of a top-tier, public research university. This distinctive affiliation allows the Hall to partner with world-class scientists, engineers, educational leaders, and teachers, with the goal of developing and disseminating the most innovative and effective science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs available today. Our mission is to inspire and foster science learning for allespecially for those with limited access to science.

Responsibilities

Cashiering:

  • Sell museum admission, books, toys, science kits, grab and go food items, movie tickets, planetarium tickets and memberships (depending on retail environment).
  • Follow cash handling procedures outlined in the University of California Business and Finance Bulletin BUS-49 and departmental and campus cash handling policy.
  • Follow proper cash handling and other payment options procedures including: custody of daily money drawer, record and reconcile sales on designated forms, secure sales and credit card receipts.
  • Accurately operate the electronic point of sale (cash register) including: count customers change, provide receipts, correctly process on-line card transactions, ask supervisor for change ina timely manner to meet customer demand.


Customer Service:

  • Have knowledge of and be able to communicate all products and experiences to on site visitors and also to remote customers.
  • Provide a high level of customer service, including resolving minor customer service problems according to predetermined protocols.


Administrative Projects:

  • Data entry for membership applications.
  • Routine receiving.
  • Financial reconciliation.
  • General administrative tasks.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Customer service experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, service oriented personality.
  • Reliability.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work weekend and holidays required.
  • Must be mininum of eighteen years old or older.


Education/Training:
  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent


Preferred Qualifications
  • Cash handling experience in a retail store, food service, museum or other attraction.


Salary & Benefits

This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the Union negotiated range of $17.32 - $17.88 / Steps 1.0 - 3.0.

Other Information

This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) between the University of California and Teamsters Local 2010. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), limited (temporary) position for up to 2.5 months.

Berkeley does hire people with conviction histories and reviews information received in the context of the job responsibilities.
