Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley Extension is the continuing education branch of the University of California, Berkeley. Extension offers more than 2,000 courses per year in a variety of subjects both online and in the classroom. Extension's administrative departments and units include student records (transcripts), registration, scheduling, international student services, facilities, financial services, and the cashier's office. In addition to the main Berkeley center, it has responsibility for the maintenance and operation of regional centers in San Francisco (Spear Street), and Belmont and other leased facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Responsibilities
  • Produces design and layout for a variety of web site applications, including public-facing website and landing pages, and company Intranet.
  • Meets and consults with academic and other department stakeholders on a variety of website enhancements and iterations.
  • Develops, presents, and implements web content and visual material through an SEO and student-first mentality.
  • Accountable for ensuring understandability of website content by using SEO best-in-class practices and implementations.
  • Maintains digitally displayed content to be current with emerging ADA accessibility issues and SEO trends and recommends and implements based on feedback and direction from Director of Creative Services across all communication channels, not limited to websites, emails and social media channels.


Required Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, editorial style, and punctuation, including skill to write in a clear and lively style.
  • Thorough understanding of technical language and requirements of the assigned work.
  • Thorough knowledge of content management systems and/or relevant web applications used for web site production, and ability to learn campus-specific computer application programs.
  • Thorough skills to write and create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, ADA-accessible and functional web content that is consistent with the campus message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
  • Firm grasp of HTML 5, CSS3 and Drupal.
  • Thorough understanding of SEO and UX writing best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of institutional processes, procedures, and applicable rules and regulations for web communications that are consistent with the values of higher education.
  • Thorough technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and/or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
  • Thorough interpersonal communication skills.
  • Thorough skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.


Education/Training:
  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.


Salary & Benefits

This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
