Team Overview:

The Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Unit is a part of Business Operations in Berkeley IT. The Business Operations unit enables the Berkeley IT organization to strategically manage our resources, our high priority initiatives, optimize our day-to-day operations, and provide leadership with the metrics and data they need to make informed decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Plays a crucial role in supporting procurement activities by assisting in analysis, coordination, and execution.
  • Collaborating closely with the Senior Procurement Analyst, contributes to the development and implementation of purchasing and IT sourcing strategies across Berkeley IT.
  • Facilitates efficient operations by managing contracts, handling Blucard processing/reconciliation, documenting processes, and maintaining departmental records.
  • Operating with a high degree of autonomy within the bIT Procurement team and under the guidance of the bIT Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Manager, implementa strategies that align with bIT's needs, leveraging supplier contracts and relationships.
  • Develops and stays current on IT Procurement and Sourcing knowledge, including leading practices and trends.
  • With seasoned expertise, exercises judgment to acquire common goods and services within the framework of UC, State, and Federal Policies, demonstrating proficiency in resolving a wide range of issues through informed decision-making.


Required Qualifications

  • Analytical skills necessary to evaluate the quality and cost effectiveness of multiple and complex purchasing options.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to read and interpret terms and conditions of contracts.
  • Ability to multitask, maintain a high level of accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Welcomes differing skills, outlooks and experiences of others working toward shared goals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong level of proficiency in the use of standard spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Knowledge of organization's departments and operations required in order to meet their procurement needs.
  • Strong skills in the use of ERP / financial systems (such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, Banner, etc.).
  • Strong working knowledge of the administration of a wide variety of contract types.
  • Working knowledge of University accounting and purchasing policies, procedures, forms, and online systems (BearBuy and BFS) to advise faculty and staff on the proper application of these policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of procurement practices and procedures, experience in RFP preparation demonstrated knowledge of vendor sourcing, and negotiation techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure, goals, mission, rules, policies, guidelines, etc.


Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,100.00 - $97,400.00.

  • This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
  • This position is eligible for flexible, hybrid or fully-remote work (telecommuting) based on candidate availability and business needs.
