Primary Function
This position is responsible for the timely and accurate review and processing of sponsored awards, prior approval requests, nonfinancial progress reports, and other award monitoring activities. The Award Coordinator performs a critical function in SPA as part of the award processing and compliance team and must interface frequently with SPA proposal and award staff. The individual in this position must be able to assess risk associated with sponsored awards and non-financial award management actions and work with colleagues within and outside of SPA to mitigate that risk while facilitating the research, scholarship and artistry programs to be funded via sponsored projects. The Award Coordinator engages in professional development activities to stay current with information regarding sponsored programs and shares information learned with colleagues.

Duties and Responsibilities (generally)
The person in this position works under direction of the Pre-Award Director, but has a large degree of latitude in exercising individual judgment while complying with Federal, State, and University fiscal policies and practices.

Minimum Required Qualifications for this position
1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics or a field related to the position.
2. At least one year of professional-level work experience in grants and contracts, regulatory, legal, or related activities in a business, academic, government, or agency setting.

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Master’s degree and/or at least three years research administration experience in a higher education setting
  • Knowledge of general award/contracting concepts and legal terms
  • Direct experience preparing, processing, and/or negotiating awards and agreements
  • Knowledge of federal awarding agencies
  • Possession of a CRA, CPRA, CFRA
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and InfoEd Proposal Tracking, Proposal Development, Award Tracking, and/or Award Management modules; experience working in institution-level networking systems
  • Working knowledge of the Federal regulations governing sponsored projects, including OMB Uniform Guidance and Federal Acquisition Regulations
  • Basic understanding of compliance regulations governing export controls, financial conflict of interest, human and vertebrate animal subjects, and biohazards

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid computer/technical skills, including the ability to quickly learn software systems
  • The ability to work in a team setting
