The Inventory and Hardware Technician manages the receiving, tagging, and tracking of all leased and purchased hardware assets acquired by ITS, including computers, servers, audio-visual equipment, and other related assets. They assist with the maintenance of the hardware inventory database, working to ensure the integrity and accuracy of asset information. This position partners with other technicians in ITS to prepare and stage assets for installation, including operating system deployment/imaging, system configuration, and software installation. The Inventory and Hardware Technician is also responsible for managing processes related to hardware repair, working with other technicians to ensure equipment and parts are maintained to necessary standards, and repairs are completed in a timely manner.
Monitor and manage the arrival of leased technology assets, as well as the removal of leased assets that are due to be returned to the leasing company. Coordinate the recycling of non-leased, obsolete equipment. Manage the tagging and processing of technology assets and process the removal/recycle of all purchased assets. Partner with Hardware and Software Inventory Managers to ensure integrity of inventory data and supporting processes.
Own and manage processes for endpoint hardware repair; work with vendors (HP, Apple, etc.) to ensure proper repair procedures are followed; perform hardware repairs and/or coordinate with Support Services team members to ensure computers and peripherals are repaired in a timely manner.
Stage and prepare hardware for deployment, including imaging and installation of operating systems, software, system configuration and updates.
Student employee supervision
Supervise and train Inventory & Hardware student employees, especially during annual computer replacement project.
Administrative and Backup
Remain current with ITS procedures for incident tracking, inventory management, and communication; Follow current trends in technology, especially computing hardware and higher education. Provide backup assistance to other technicians in ITS Support Services, as needed.
High school diploma or the equivalent
Three (3) years of experience working in inventory management or technology support
BA or BS in a related discipline
Experience working in an academic environment
Experience with computer hardware repair
