Position Summary
The College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo is seeking an Internship Coordinator to work with graduate students within the College. The Internship Coordinator will formalize, document, and expand internship opportunities available to graduate students and to work more closely with the alumni network. The duration of this appointment is anticipated to be for 2 years. The incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Work with the Director of Graduate Studies and other designated faculty in Chemistry and Geography as coordinator of internship programs.
  • Act as a liaison between placement sites and the programs, advising and placing students in internship placements.
  • Solicit and promote internship opportunities for graduate students and to expand the network where appropriate.
  • Manage and document the placements, duties, and deliverables of all interns and create compelling profiles of past interns to increase the number of placements per year, and to archive all such information onto university websites and newsletters. This archive will be used as a tool to recruit graduate students.
  • Engage alumni for securing internship positions as well as potentially supporting (cost-sharing) experiential learning opportunities.
  • Strategically identify, build, and maintain relationships with individual organizations to cultivate new and monitor existing internship opportunities. Activities include outreach to new prospects, site visits to evaluate appropriateness and relevance of current and potential internships, scheduled communication with intern supervisors, and responsiveness to sites on issues such as student conduct and affiliation agreements. These activities will broaden and deepen our alumni and stakeholder base critical for philanthropy, professional advancement, and public visibility.
  • Assess market needs and student internship needs relative to current inventory of sites. Research the WNY market for internship development in areas where there may be shortages or where growth is expected. Consider opportunities beneficial to the programs.
  • Assess comparable Master’s programs nationally to identify national and international internship opportunities, particularly for students interested in international trade and development careers.

University at Buffalo is an affirmative action equal opportunity employer and, in keeping with our commitment, welcomes all to apply including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
