Departmental Overview

The Center for the Study of Child Care Employment (CSCCE), at the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment (IRLE) focuses on achieving comprehensive public investments which enable and reward the early childhood workforce to deliver high-quality care and education for all children. To achieve this goal, CSCCE conducts cutting-edge research and proposes policy solutions aimed at improving how our nation prepares, supports, and rewards the early care and education workforce to ensure young children's optimal development. As a result of this work, policymakers and their staff, thought leaders in the field, and other stakeholders use CSCCE's research and recommendations to inform policy decisions that support the early care and education workforce.

The Institute for Research on Labor and Employment promotes better understanding of the conditions, policies, and institutions that affect the well-being of workers and their families and communities. We inform public debate with hard evidence about inequality, the economy, and the nature of work.

Provide general support to CSCCE academic staff. This includes creating documents reports based on data and information compiled by staff, developing presentation materials including PowerPoint, webinars, and print materials, inputting surveys in online survey program, monitoring of survey response rates, fact checking, maintaining bibliographic database, and maintaining appropriate records and archives.

Assist staff to compile information from electronic sources to inform the research and policy projects of academic staff, assist with data collection and data management across CSCCE projects as needed.

In consultation with CSCCE leadership team, and IRLE Communications staff, implement, and manage the CSCCE dissemination and communication plan. This includes coordinating dissemination of reports and materials, reviewing and updating website, updating contacts database, tracking media coverage about CSCCE and related issues, and assist with design of flyers, memes, and other graphics.

Coordinate and provide support for internal and external meetings. This includes scheduling, recording minutes, logistics (conference/video call reservations, room reservations, ordering food), and production and dissemination of meeting materials.

Perform administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, preparing and tracking reimbursements, managing general center email and phone-line, and coordinating the purchase and tracking of incentives for research participants.

Required Qualifications

  • Preparation of reports and documents including creating charts and figures and powerpoint presentations.
  • Strong computer skills to work in Microsoft and Google suites and gather information from electronic resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing and maintaining record systems.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population in a dynamic work environment and to establish relationships with staff and external organizations and individuals.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Documented ability of strong report writing skills.
  • Experience in fact checking and preparing manuscripts for publication.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing deadlines
  • Attention to detail and accuracy a must.
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Previous office experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of critical issues facing the early care and education workforce.
  • Interest in labor and social and economic justice issues, particularly as they impact children, families, and the early education workforce.
  • Familiarity with academic institutions; prior experience with UC Berkeley a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge of UC administrative policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of WordPress, Adobe Suite, and Smartsheet recommended.
