The Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students in Student Affairs is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment that helps all students reach their educational, aspirational, and personal goals.

The Office of the Dean of Students is charged with all of Student Life activity, including the well-being, emotional and safety of students.
This position provides leadership for multicultural community development, anti-bias education for residents and staff, and response to bias-related incidents. The incumbent provides advocacy and support to and for underrepresented families. Involves instructional or program activities related to recreation, leisure, and fitness in an accredited environment; provides first aid and emergency care as necessary, and responds to user/customer needs. This position is additionally responsible for budget, program development, facility coordination and reservations, open recreation, hiring and training of staff, community outreach, program development and special events. The position works to maintain sensitivity to special needs, insure adequate planning and conformance to University policies and regulations. Currently, the University Village is comprised of about 2400 students and families in 974 housing units.
Community Outreach and Development:
Develops community building and engagement activities and events focusing on community standards, cultural competency, and belonging.
Host quarterly community building events.
Works with campus and community partners (UCPD, CE3, AUSD, Tang Center, etc) to develop a wraparound support model of support resources and engagement protocols for marginalized students and families.
Ensure ongoing professional development and anti-bias and bystander intervention trainings and workshops are offered and attended by staff and residents.
Serves as a liaison and first point of contact regarding incidents in UVA; maintains accurate reports and records on incidents of bias, community and/or cultural conflicts.
Makes recommendations for improvements and interventions to reduce the number of community conflicts or incidences of bias in UVA
Serves as advocate to marginalized students in navigating institutional bureaucracy.
In collaboration with campus and community partners.
Manages UVA's basic needs outreach, including the Bear Pantry, the diaper bank, and the hygiene bank.
Supervises employee performance, career development and adherence to job standards.
Gives annual evaluations to direct reports.
Takes disciplinary actions as needed.
Directs the supervision, training and development staff up to 60 employees
Establishes the overall direction of all aspects of programs and facilities use.
Establishes program goals, develops new program areas and plans for new growth.
Analyzes program records to determine necessary programming and budgetary adjustments.
Provides direct supervision to career staff.
Schedules use of recreational facilities and advises and assists individuals and groups with problems related to scheduled recreational activities.
Manages the safety, coordination of maintenance and scheduling of the Community Center, outdoor courts, baseball fields and soccer fields.
Follows Risk Management guidelines.
Uses waivers and forms developed by Risk management.
Supervises management of all day-to-day operations, fee collection and deposits, injury and insurance reports, registration and student placement.
Monitors budget and makes budget recommendations to supervisor.
Develops and oversees $400,000-$500,000 yearly budget.
Projects, manages, monitors, analyzes and reports all program revenues and expenses with guidance from Student Affairs Finance partner
Develops, evaluates and implements fee structures based on cost-analysis, user demand and common regional rates.
Develops strategies to increase programmatic goals via fees, donations, grants and other development tools to meet programming goals.
Implements program policies and procedures.
Coordinates and implements all aspects of program marketing.
Acts as representative at meetings with outside agencies and organizations
Maintains files, records and prepares reports as necessary.
Is responsible for the safety of all staff, customers, programs and equipment.
Deals directly with Risk management regarding claims and injuries.
Provides health and safety training, guidance on safe work practices, provides proper equipment, observes work practices and correct methods and investigates accidents.
Works in a safe and responsible manner while not putting self or others at risk. This includes complying with applicable policies and regulations; using personal safety gear; observing warning signs; learning about potential hazards; and reporting unsafe conditions.
Has knowledge of program activity and industry best practices.
Demonstrated leadership and inter-personal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization, internally and externally.
Strong service orientation, program management, sound judgment and decision-making, critical thinking, develop original ideas, creative problem solving skills in a varied and challenging environment.

Bachelors' degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Red Cross CPR required.
Standard First Aid Training Certification required.
Licenses or certifications, if any:
Maintains current CPR/First Aid certification and TB clearance.
Must complete blood borne pathogen training annually - upon hire.
Standard First Aid Training Certification required - upon hire.
Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience up to $88,500.00.
