The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Campus Safety Officer in the Student Services division. The ideal candidate will share our college’s commitment to educating the more than 32,000 racially and socioeconomically diverse students we enroll each year.  Currently, our student body is approximately 45.4 percent Latinx/Hispanic, 32.2 percent White, 6.3 percent Asian, 5.5 percent African-American, 4.5 percent Pacific Islander, 2 percent multi-ethnic, and less than 1 percent Native American. The college was designated a Hispanic Serving Institution in 2015, reflecting our focus on enhancing the educational attainment and economic well-being of the community we proudly serve.  As one of 20 community colleges in the state selected for the California Guided Pathways Project, we are focused on enhancing equity and implementing policies and practices that help all students achieve successful academic outcomes.

Under supervision of the Director, Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Officer patrols campus buildings; protects individuals and controls crowds during assemblies or disturbances; responsible to carry non-lethal weapons while on-duty and use non-lethal weapons when necessary; investigates and prepares written reports on accidents, property damage, fires, law violations, thefts, and disturbances of the peace; gathers evidence and interviews witnesses; testifies in court as necessary; guards property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry; gives information and directs the public; and assists in the orientation of District personnel regarding security measures. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Two (2) years of active law enforcement experience required.

Education:
Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by training or coursework in public safety, security and patrol methods and procedures.

Licenses:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License; Guard Registration from Bureau of Security and Investigative Services; and Basic Certificate issued by the State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). First Aid and C.P.R. certifications must be obtained within probationary period. All licenses/certifications (except P.O.S.T.) must be maintained throughout course of employment.
