The work designation for this position in on-campus, however, there may be on occasion some flexibility for remote work.
What You'll Do
The Clinical Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of clinical systems and technologies used at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) and will work cross functionally to bring robust, scalable, stable applications to our end users. This role involves collaborating with other IT professionals within the Tufts Technology Services team, and vendors to ensure the seamless integration of the clinical system to enhance patient care, and optimize workflows. You will help define requirements for packaging of deliverables, installation methods, and all other needs to ensure applications move to production efficiently and with stability utilizing on-premises and Cloud resources. This position will develop plans for the evolution of the applications, define and implement cloud strategies, maintain the TUSDM Application stack, and look to evolving technologies to increase the services provided to our end users. Duties also include maintaining operational architecture of the applications, processing technical support tickets, documenting and knowledge transfer to fellow team members as required, and performing service checks for the deployed clinical application environment, as well as participating in off hours on call rotation. This position works collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Informatics, and TTS team members to implement technology needs.
This is a one year limited term appointment with opportunity for extension.
Clinical Systems Design and Architecture:
- Design and architect clinical systems, ensuring they align with the organization's clinical requirements and objectives.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to enhance clinical operations.
System Implementation and Integration:
- Lead or participate in the planning and execution of clinical system implementations, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, medical devices, and other clinical technologies.
- Ensure seamless integration with existing systems and third-party applications.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provide expert technical support to resolve complex clinical system issues promptly.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to diagnose and troubleshoot system-related problems.
Data Management and Analytics:
- Manage and ensure the accuracy and integrity of clinical data within systems.
- Utilize data analytics and reporting tools to extract actionable insights for clinical decision-making.
Security and Compliance:
- Implement and maintain security measures to protect patient data and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA.
- Perform regular security audits and assessments.
Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations and procedures.
Vendor Management:
- Collaborate with external vendors to evaluate and procure clinical technologies and solutions.
- Manage vendor relationships and contract negotiations.
Project Management:
- Lead and manage projects related to clinical system upgrades, expansions, and enhancements.
- Develop project plans, budgets, and timelines.
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
- Skills and experience typically acquired by a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in healthcare IT and clinical systems engineering.
- Strong knowledge of clinical application set-up and maintenance.
- Proficiency in clinical information systems, medical devices, and related technologies.
- Project and vendor management skills and experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance and security regulations.
- Professional certifications in healthcare informatics or clinical engineering (e.g., Certified Clinical Engineer - CCE).
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and Health Information Exchange (HIE) protocols.
- Familiarity with medical device integration standards (e.g., HL7, DICOM).
- Expertise in healthcare data interoperability and standards (e.g., FHIR).
- Subject Matter Expert in Oracle
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to work with others in a Leader capacity on a team both within and outside of the Dental School.
- Must be able to work independently, goal-oriented and timeline driven, possess expert organizational skills and enjoy working with people.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Heath Informatics or related field
- Hands on experience with Dental Clinical Systems – AxiUm, Dolphin, MiPACS, DDX
Pay Range
Minimum $112,500.00, Midpoint $140,650.00, Maximum $168,800.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
