Lab Manager I - Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)
Position Category: Staff - Full-Time
Utah Valley University invites applications for the Lab Manager for the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Lab. This position assists Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty with lab supervision, maintains lab equipment, constructs of new lab setups as required by faculty. Develops and implements laboratory policies and standard operating procedures. Monitors students' performance with respect to safety procedures and operation. Monitors and maintains a safe, clean, and organized laboratory working environment, including facilities and machines. Maintains tool and supplies inventory, maintains lab course consumables. Demonstrates safe and proper use of equipment and machinery to students. Where appropriate, maintains service logs. Renews software licenses and installs engineering design tools in the labs. During the times that lab courses are not scheduled in the labs, stays in the labs for students to make up their labs and work on their projects.

Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the use and maintenance of automated manufacturing facilities and equipment.
Knowledge of ordering and inventory control of supplies, equipment, and/or services.
Knowledge of print reading and material takeoff.
Knowledge of laboratory equipment protocols and procedures.
Knowledge of troubleshooting procedures.
Knowledge of electronics.
Knowledge of electronic sensors.
Knowledge of Cadence Design System.
Skills in print reading and material takeoff.
Skills in computer aided design.
Skills in installation of software.
Skills in the use of automated manufacturing industry tools and equipment. (electronic and pneumatic actuators, electronic sensors, PLC circuits, industrial networks, and OSHA regulations).
Skills in computer programming languages (ladder logic, function block, C, C#, C++, FANUC).
Skills with electric motorized hand tools and equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory testing systems and instruments.
Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to lift 55 lbs. repeatedly.
Minimum Associates degree, Bachelor preferred, in the following related fields: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, Automation, or Manufacturing.
Requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling, standing, sitting, and walking. Must be able to lift greater than 55 pounds.
Frequent exposure to live circuits and/or operating machinery.
