Departmental Overview

The Lab Manager position will provide administrative support to the Yosef Research Lab. They will work independently and provide a full range of comprehensive, complex, and diverse administrative services that include, but are not limited to coordinating on-site and off-site meetings and events; maintaining calendar and coordinating appointments; making travel arrangements for faculty and students; preparing reimbursement documents for all programmatic activities; activities involving finance, budgets and human resources. All of the above will be executed using organizational skills and independent judgement to ensure smooth daily operations.


45% Administrative Support: Provide general office management services and develop operational procedures to ensure efficiency in the research lab, maintain databases, logs, and spreadsheets to facilitate efficient retrieval of information, prepare order for routine supplies and low value purchases as needed, research vendors and prices for various purchases, maintain PI's calendar and schedule appointments, review mail and route appropriately, compose correspondence and reports, respond to written inquiries. Other administrative activities may include some of the following functions: finance, facilities, payroll, human resources, student services, and communications.

15% Finance Support: Have clear understanding of budgets for different funding sources, maintain budgets and spreadsheets and track expenses. Communicate with research fund manager regarding award and subaward status, keep a log of activity.

15% Travel and Entertainment: Coordinate travel for faculty and students, book and track airline travel, submit travel and entertainment requests for reimbursement, approve travel and entertainment reimbursement and payment requests.

10% Event Support: Provide logistical support in the planning and execution of meetings and other lab events as assigned. Coordinate food and beverage ordering, venue booking, meeting or event materials such as maps, programs, as needed.

10% Personnel: Provides guidance to PI in developing job descriptions, facilitating benefits communications, and providing guidance on compensation programs, personnel policies, and procedures.

5% Special Projects: Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

*This is a part-time, variable position (60% - 80% time)*

  • Working knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Ability to work independently, apply initiative and take responsibility for a variety of administrative tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task with competing deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Knowledge of University travel, purchasing and reimbursement policies and procedures.
  • Experience with website management and Wordpress.
  • Communications and outreach experience.

*The hourly salary range designated for this position: $24.14 - $31.00; however, starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
