The University at Buffalo’s Genomics & Bioinformatics Core (GBC), located in the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences (CBLS), has an opening for a junior lab technician.

The GBC is a university asset providing next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics services to both academia and industry. Along with supporting academic research, the GBC plays a critical role in UB’s economic development mission by collaborating with industry partners/clients to support their R&D needs.

The candidate should have molecular biology skills including:
  • DNA/cDNA/RNA preparation and quality control;
  • designing and performing PCR assays,
  • operating standard platforms used in molecular biology such as the plate reader, spectrophotometer, PCR machines,
  • experience in sterile techniques and analytical skills.

In addition to lab bench activities, this position will:

  • help with routine instrument maintenance
  • purchasing reagents and consumables, and assisting with compliance policies.

Excellent computer and organizational skills are essential.

Some knowledge of next-generation sequencing is desirable.
