Overview

The StAAR Center (Student Accessibility Services & Academic Resource Center) is responsible for providing academic resource programming and accommodations for students with documented disabilities who are enrolled in the schools of Arts, Sciences and Engineering and the Fletcher school. Academic resource programs include writing, subject tutoring, academic coaching, and more.

 

The department also fulfills and complies with the university's legal responsibilities under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. The StAAR Center determines eligibility for accessibility services and determines/provides reasonable forms of accommodation for academic, residential, dining, and parking, transportation and other co-curricular student needs. The office accommodation programs and provides education and consultation to faculty and the community about their responsibilities to students with disabilities.

 

As the front-line administrator, the Student Accessibility and Academic Resources Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact to the StAAR Center. Providing administrative support to all StAAR programs and StAAR staff members, they will run management of the StAAR Center front-desk and maintain all desk-coverage needs.

 

 


What You'll Do

This position will be on-campus through the Academic Year with the possibility of remote flexibility during University breaks.

 

This position will ensure that students are connected with the appropriate referrals and resources specific to StAAR services and will provided detailed information about the academic resources available to students at Tufts (tutoring, workshops, one-on-one support, accommodations, and more). They will provide high-level customer service to students, families, faculty and staff who contact StAAR by phone, email, and/or visit in-person. High attention-to-detail, efficiency in a fast-paced environment, confidentiality, and empathetic understanding for diverse student experiences and needs are integral to this role.

 

The Student Accessibility and Academic Resources Coordinator will support all student hiring for StAAR student employees, manage all student payroll, and lead accommodation registration process. Additional responsibilities in this position will include (but are not limited to): managing StAAR communication (phone, email, in-person greeting), meeting scheduling, event coordination, exam-proctoring services, office management support, manage departmental purchasing needs and individual budgetary support as needed, and additional duties as assigned.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

Knowledge and experience as typically acquired by:

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in an administrative support role
  • High School degree with 5+ years of related experience; Associates degree preferred
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including word processing, editing and graphics functions, spreadsheet and database knowledge.
  • Proficiency with Zoom Video Conferencing and hybrid meeting formats
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently, balance competing demands, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to analyze data, assess needs, and prioritize workflow.
  • Ability to maintain highly organized and detailed confidential records of requests and contacts.
  • Dedication to serving and supporting a diverse student population.
  • Ability to complete work in a fast-paced environment, while also balancing frequent distractions and interruptions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree highly preferred, plus two or more years of related experience in a college or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems and/or hiring processes.
  • Experience providing administrative support in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with Knowledge of Sections 503, 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, The Fair Housing Act and the Disability Accessibility Transportation Act.
  • Familiarity with disability database systems.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Evening or weekend hours may be required.
