What You'll Do
We are seeking an experienced Research Development professional with a passion for driving growth and innovation in a dynamic research environment. The Senior Research Development Specialist partners to help faculty members and teams develop high-quality grant proposals and secure research funding.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators in the creation of highly competitive and complex extramural grant proposals, particularly in the areas of high University priority interdisciplinary science (including social science), engineering, technology, education, arts, humanities, and University infrastructure
- Leads the development and implementation of education and outreach materials and programs to investigators, specifically around the development of large, complex proposals, funding strategies, and best practices for internal and external collaborations
- Trains and mentors less experienced research development staff
- Works with the Director and Associate Director to identify priorities, disseminate funding opportunities, and provide support for individual investigators and teams of investigators to enhance competitiveness for extramural funding
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
- Knowledge and skills typically acquired through completion of a Master’s degree OR Bachelors degee and 3+ years of experience working in a scientific environment in research development, grant writing, and/or research communications (with writing responsibilities)
- Minimum of 5 years experience in writing/editing
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with teams of stakeholders toward a common goal
- Ability to use MS Office and related word processing and design software
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proven track record of secure funding for research initiatives
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and persuasively
- Knowledge of research funding agencies and the grant proposal process
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in a scientific (including social science) or technical field that requires the understanding and use of hypothesis testing, study design, and quantitative and/or qualitative methods, or equivalent experience
- Experience with federal government grant proposals (e.g., NSF, NIH, USDA, Department of Education, etc.)
- Experience working in an academic research environment (e.g., as part of a research laboratory, conducting independent research, etc.)
- Experience facilitating team discussion and goal-setting across disciplinary boundaries
Pay Range
Minimum $68,400.00, Midpoint $85,550.00, Maximum $102,700.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
