Overview

The Department of Immunology maintains research programs that focus on translational and basic research in areas relevant to human disease. The strength of the department lies with an integrated faculty interested in understanding how immunological, physiological and metabolic pathways interact to produce dysregulated, innate and adaptive host responses in a wide array of chronic diseases. These include autoimmunity, cardiovascular disease, transplantation, infectious diseases, cancer, obesity and diabetes. Our goal is to become a world-class center for the study of inflammation and the targeted development of novel therapeutics for both treatment and prevention of immune-mediated diseases.


What You'll Do

Under close supervision of Principal Investigator, conducts a variety of routine experiments following established immunological procedures and protocols, which may include animal handling, performing routine immune assays, tissue culture, gel electrophoresis, and other laboratory techniques. May also record test results, analyze data using basic statistics, new bioinformatics tools (based on interest and expertise), maintain and organize laboratory materials, equipment and supplies, and monitor animal colonies.

  • Animal manipulation: imaging, surgery to create osteoarthritis
  • Performs techniques such as tissue culture, PCR, immunohistochemistry, electrophoresis, protein purification and others
  • Records results and maintains accurate records of experiments
  • Performs limited data interpretation and assists with basic statistics and analysis
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and orders/keeps inventory of supplies
  • Prepares stock solutions, reagents and other media.
  • Monitors animal colonies and performs husbandry, collects samples and maintains census records.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience typically acquired by: Bachelor’s degree in science with at least one year of relevant laboratory experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Good organizational skills and communication skills.
  • Comfortable with lab animal handling
