The Department of Clinical Sciences is responsible for providing didactic and clinical training of veterinary students, conducting research pertaining to diseases of large and small animals, and providing health care services for large and small animals.

Note that as the supervisor for this position has a secondary appointment in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology (DCPB), and the job itself will be part of the Shared Research Resources, housed in DCP, a summary of DCPB is also provided:

DCP provides administrative support for faculty and staff who teach, conduct research and provide diagnostic services to the small and large animal hospitals as well as outside organizations. Educational areas of emphasis include Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Biochemistry, Veterinary Physiology, and Veterinary Pathology. Research areas include reproductive biology, neuroscience, and biotechnology. Faculty provide anatomic and clinical pathology diagnostic services through the Cummings Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, which supports patient care by the school’s hospitals.

What You'll Do

This position will be in a comparative pathology and genomics shared resource laboratory. The activities in the laboratory include processing samples received by the shared resource and preparing and running the requested assays. This will include DNA/RNA extractions from bio-samples and cell lines, NGS library preparation, Nanostring nCounter and Geomx assay processing, and sample quality control. The applicant will be expected to take on new and/or additional duties as skills improve and laboratory needs change. Additional duties will include routine instrument maintenance. Strong applicants will have familiarity with molecular and NGS assay techniques. The applicant should be well-organized, with meticulous experimental technique and data entry, able to follow and troubleshoot research protocols and wet lab procedures. Motivation to learn new laboratory and computational methods is expected.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Required Experience, Education, Background, And Certifications/Licenses
• This position requires a degree in a relevant field and may include a PhD with 3 years of additional relevant experience, or a BS in biologic sciences with 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with or without accommodation

• Detailed record-keeping in laboratory notebooks
• Basic computer skills
