Under the supervision and direction of, Orange Coast College is seeking a Swim Instructor for learn-to-swim classes.
The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing a positive and safe learning experience to Orange Coast College’s recreational swim participants and well-rounded swim workouts to intermediate and advanced swim participants.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide competent, safe instruction using recognized and established guidelines developed for Orange Coast College’s recreational swim program.
  • Utilize developmentally appropriate teaching techniques to instruct diverse participant groups.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor, staff and participants. Keep participants informed about their progress. Inform supervisor of any safety issues or concerns.
  • Coach students in swimming form and technique; adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience, and ability of participants.
  • Plan and effectively organize class time for maximum practice.
  • Teach with encouragement and positive reinforcement.
  • Provide for consistency in instruction by working each assigned class.
  • The main focus of a swim instructor is to teach swimming skills in accordance to Orange Coast College’s curriculum in a fun, positive manor.
  • Provide continuous, positive corrective feedback to students and parents on their swimming efforts.
  • Structure class time appropriately to incorporate repetition, reinforcement, and introduction of required skills.
  • Ensures the safety of all program participants by enforcement of pool policies and rules.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to program participants, members and guests.
  • Maintain proper equipment and time organization to ensure timely class start and end times.
  • Provide management with class information to keep proper class organization.
  • Provide parents with monthly, individualized feedback on swimmers’ progress.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
