The Gear Up department at UVU is hiring. This is a great part time job working to make our community even better by helping students reach their academic potential. Come work with the GEAR-UP Program! The Mentors coordinate students' academic progress and attendance with GEAR UP counselors. They assist GEAR UP Counselors in planning and providing GEAR UP academic, outreach, and group activities. It's rewarding to see how your work can impact the success of others!
Graduation from an accredited institution with an associates degree plus one year of experience related to the Summary of Duties or any combination of education and experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling three years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic academic knowledge as a result of completion of a high school diploma or equivalent and have sufficient college preparation to pursue a college curriculum.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Teaching skills and ability to tutor students of various academic levels.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to organize schedules, prioritize tasks, and follow-through on assignments.
- Ability to successfully interact with students of diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.
Fluency in Spanish, both speaking and writing. Valid drivers license and transportation. May be requested to accompany GEAR UP counselors on home visits when needed.
Consistent need to speak, hear, and see.
You may be eligible for a 3 credit hour or 1 class tuition waiver after 6 consecutive months of employment and a minimum of 475 hours worked. Dependents do not qualify for a waiver.
$10.20 - $13.50 per hour
