Departmental Overview

The UC Botanical Garden is a non-profit research garden and museum for the University of California at Berkeley, having a notably diverse plant collection including many rare and endangered plants. Established in 1890, the Garden, which is open to the public year round, has over 13,000 different kinds of plants from around the world, cultivated by region in naturalistic landscapes over its 34 acres.

The UC Botanical Garden is looking for a responsible "take-charge" type that enjoys working with people. Under the direction of the Rental Coordinator, the Rental Monitor (RM) will support the Garden's rental operation. The incumbent's primary responsibility will be RM will be expected to work without supervision on weekday and weekend evenings and handle emergencies as they arise. The RM will become familiar with each rental contract and set up the rental space according to the contract and/or break it down after the event.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for client's needs under terms of the rental contract and overseeing the maintaining of Garden rules for the duration of the event.
  • The Rental Monitor will be the liaison with the renter, the rental contact and the caterer for the event, available by walkie talkie, and will manage and guide all deliveries for the event.
  • The Rental Monitor will work with the Rental Coordinator team and the Kiosk/Entrance security on duty.
  • Acts as lead safety and security in an emergency.
  • Before the event, the Rental Monitor may be asked to perform set-up duties including moving of rental furniture and tidying the venue.
  • During the event, the Rental Monitor will monitor the rental area and direct wandering rental guests back to rental area.
  • At the conclusion of the event, the Rental Monitor will provide a 1 hour notification to the rental contact and stay within the vicinity to assure a timely exit under the terms of the agreement.
  • After the event, the Rental Monitor will write observations and incidents in log;perform required tear down and straightening up of facility and/or turn roomaround for next event


Required Qualifications

  • Primary work schedule weekend days/evenings and weekday evenings.
  • Dependability a must.
  • Demonstrated strong written, verbal communications skills with excellent interpersonal andcustomer service skills to be able to interact with diverse group of people.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to work under pressure with multiple interruptions.
  • Must be highly detailed-oriented and self motivated.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in decision making and to remain calm under emergency/crisis situations.
  • Must have reliable transportation to arrive to job site.
  • Due to the serving of alcohol during events, candidate must be at least 21 years old for consideration.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at events (with caterer, etc.) desirable.


Salary & Benefits

  • This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is $23.22, Step 1.0.
  • This is a 6-month, part-time (16 hours/week), Limited (temporary) appointment.
