Job Summary
Simmons University is looking for three (3) Part-time Graduate Resident Directors (GRD) to join the Student Affairs Department. Reporting to the Director of Residence Life, the GRD will assist in the management, assessment and implementation of residential life programming and curriculum. From supporting day-to-day residence life operations to meeting with and supporting students, the GRD will play a critical role in fostering a welcoming and inclusive residence community that supports student engagement, academic success, and personal development. Position Details
The GRD is a 10 month, live-in position including both an apartment and an on-campus meal plan. The GRD is a 10 hour per week position with additional responsibilities during evening and weekends as assigned. The positions will begin August 1, 2019 with an expected end date of May 31, 2020.

  • Assist in overall management, assessment and implementation of the residence life program;
  • Active participation in weekly staff meetings, RA selection and training, room selection, opening and closing, and residence life programming;
  • Oversee and manage hall operations including RA program and duty tracking, conducting health and safety checks, fire drills, building rosters, incident reports, student conduct meetings, as well as maintenance request;
  • Serve as a first point of contact and support system for students, making referrals to counseling, academic services, and campus resources as needed;
  • Serve in the on-duty rotation as the primary contact for on-campus emergencies or crises, including weekends, after-hours, break periods and holidays;
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree required;
  • Enrollment in a graduate program in higher education administration, social work or related field;
  • Previous experience as a Resident Assistant, student leader and/or directly related work experience preferred;
  • Ability to interact with diverse populations, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community environment;
  • Strong attention to detail, organization and prioritization skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
