Theatrical Head Electrician

Position Summary
The Center for the Arts within the College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Theatrical Head Electrician who would be responsible for providing head electrician duties on a wide range of performances and events that serve students, faculty, and community members. Some responsibilities include light board operation, maintaining lighting equipment and systems, and providing mentorship to students. In this position you will communicate with various people, including University faculty, staff and students, professional tours, Center for the Arts clients, and vendors. As the Theatrical Head Electrician, you will:
- Provide hands-on technical support, primarily day of event light board operation, and head electrician duties on a wide range of events, including but not limited to touring productions, concerts, dance, corporate, theatrical, cultural, video, recitals, graduation, and athletic activities.
- Primarily responsible for maintaining lighting equipment/systems and recommending lighting projects. Ensure that CFA-owned and managed lighting systems are in complete operational readiness.
- Provide other production support as needed to fulfill professional obligation and department needs. Provide production management, head carpenter, fly man, stagehand, video production, audio and other production duties as needed.
- Provide oversite and mentorship of Theatre and Dance students in hang and focus.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree. Concentration in technical theatre or related field.
- Professional theatrical electrician experience working in performing arts or in the entertainment field.
- Demonstrated ability to program and run ETC light boards for a wide variety of performances, read lighting plots and call follow spots without instruction or familiarity with the performance. Demonstrated technical skills in the operation, configuration, programming and troubleshooting of moving and conventional lighting fixtures.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of technical theatre and live event production as well as the current safe practices in the entertainment field.
- Ability to set up and operate small sound and video systems without instruction.
- Strong communication, organizational, supervisory, interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of people. Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate situational leadership on events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three to five years of professional theatrical electrician equivalent experience working in performing arts or in the entertainment field.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to position stage weights weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work at heights, which includes moving on a truss to focus, weight loading, up-rigging, and working from a elevated work platform.
- Hours routinely include days, nights, weekends and long production shifts.
