Manager, Network Engineering

Job Description Summary:
Manages the network engineering team and the information technology network infrastructure to ensure reliability and availability across the entire college district.

Job Description:

*Description of Duties and Tasks *

  • Manages a team of network engineers in maintaining the College’s enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Implements processes for  the network infrastructure throughout the college including, but not limited to, campus and data center routing and switching, wireless, load balancers, and firewalls.
  • Designs robust, scalable enterprise and campus networks in on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments following industry best practices.
  • Works directly with a variety of campus community members to determine needs and develop enterprise network strategies and solutions .
  • Creates and maintains documentation of policies and procedures, diagrams, and other technical documentation.
  • Other duties as required or assigned by management.

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of Cisco IOS, NX-OS, Palo Alto PAN-OS, and F5 TMOS; experience with VMWare network virtualization desired.
  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols such as: TCP/IP, OSI model, SNMP, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, and IPSec.
  • Experience designing and leading the implementation of large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network technologies through professional certifications; Cisco CCNP certification preferred.
  • Experience creating detailed network and wiring diagrams. Experience with Microsoft Visio a plus.
  • Familiarity with IT governance standards and practices including ITIL framework and change management processes.

  • Flexible schedule including the ability to work weekends and evenings on occasion.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).

  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized.

*Required Work Experience**

  • Three years work related work experience.

Preferred Work Experience

  • Ten years of experience supporting, designing, building, and installing large scale enterprise network solutions from multiple vendors.
  • Three or more years experience managing IT teams, preferably within infrastructure engineering.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information management strongly preferred.

Technology Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications.

Required Work Experience

  • Three years of work related experience and one year supervisory experience.
  • Completion of ACC’s Supervisory Completion Program will suffice as one year of experience.

Preferred Work Experience

  • Three or more years experience managing IT teams, preferably within infrastructure engineering.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, telecommunications,  or information management.

  • Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportation for local Austin travel as needed.

Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience with IT telecommunications and call center technologies.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is routinely performed in a office setting.
  • May be subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional to routine lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.

Salary Range $70,645 – $100,922

Full-time faculty and staffing table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the college are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty and Administrators Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal law.
