Tufts Global Education serves as a hub of international programs and initiatives at the School of Arts & Science and School of Engineering. TGE oversees study abroad, international exchange programs, international learning collaborations, and faculty-led custom programs. We currently operate 11 of our own programs, Tufts Programs Abroad, in Chile, China, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, London, Madrid, Oxford, Paris, Pavia, and Tübingen. We facilitate student participation in approved partner programs throughout the world. TGE develops custom programs abroad during winter and summer sessions. About 40% of the junior class studies abroad for a semester or a full academic year. We host international exchange students and visiting scholars who attend Tufts for an academic term or custom program. The division works with faculty, students, and Tufts University on global engagement.


What You'll Do

This is a hybrid role. The expectation is that this role will be on campus four days a week during the academic year, with the possibility for additional flexibility depending on the academic needs of the department.


The Program Manager is responsible for advising Tufts students who study abroad on affiliate programs (more than 400 students per year). The PM conducts student outreach, enrollment, pre-departure, and re-entry orientation programs.  PM also determines transfer of credit from non-Tufts programs, evaluates the quality of education abroad programs, and reviews programs. The PM also manages a portfolio of short, customized programs abroad and will have a role in developing new opportunities. The PM will design new student initiatives around outreach, peer advising, and student education in consultation with stakeholders. The PM is responsible for evaluating and monitoring the international health, safety, and security of the international programs. They serve as the point person for students while abroad on external programs and communicate with partners on student affairs, academics, and logistics. The PM will work with the Associate Dean on creating new partnership models with providers and international universities.


The PM’s portfolio will change based on office needs and program enrollments. In managing these programs, the PM oversees their program portfolio and is expected to make recommendations to the Associate Dean.The PM is expected to be self-directed and to work directly with various academic and student service units, as well as outside constituents (parents, international and national partners, etc.), to deliver the highest quality student experience possible This work calls for the PM to communicate effectively and be extremely organized. The PM will work to establish clear policy and protocols in conjunction with various stakeholders. Finally, the PM supports office-wide marketing and promotion efforts to ensure department and institutional goals are met. 

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a Master’s degree and 4 years of experience in global education
  • Demonstrated strengths in administration in the field of international education/study abroad required
  • Study abroad experience or significant travel and work abroad required
  • Experience in advising undergraduate students in a higher education setting is critical
  • Proven ability to work effectively and cooperatively with college students, faculty, staff, and parents
  • Excellent organizational skills required. Proven attention to detail and strong follow through
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Ability to work effectively in intercultural situations and in dynamic, fast-paced atmosphere in which expectations are high
  • Must be able to handle multiple and complex responsibilities
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing student employees
  • Communication and outreach experience
  • Designing academic and student programs abroad
  • Demonstrated writing skills and ability to create detailed reports
  • Should be energetic, self-directed, flexible, and extremely well-organized and hard working
  • Ability to analyze and summarize information and make appropriate recommendations for program revisions in the context of institutional and programmatic goals
  • Knowledge of other languages desirable
