Program Manager, Small Business Development Center
Salary: Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: FY2300131 Location: Main Campus - Baytown, TX Division: Provost/Academic & Student Affairs
Position Overview
Starting Salary Range is $50,648 -$58,241. The initial salary offer is commensurate with education and related work experience.
As a member of the Center for Workforce and Community Development, and under the supervision of the Director of the SBDC, performs a thorough understanding of small business operations, theory, and practical aspects in many business industries. Perform administrative tasks on an as-needed basis. This multipurpose position requires excellent customer service, time management, and problem-solving skills. This position provides professional business services to pre-venture, early-stage, and growth companies. Individuals must have strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving, decision-making, project management, and time management skills.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Facilitate preliminary client assessment and evaluate individual and business strengths and weaknesses in developing services and strategies for improvement.
- Assist the SBDC Director and/or clients with marketing and advertising plans as needed.
- Perform administrative tasks in support of SBDC operations.
- Serve as a communications liaison between GCSBDC network, Lee College, and business stakeholders.
- Assist in the development and implementation of special events/workshops and when necessary, represent the Center at college and community events.
- At all times act with discretion and adhere to the confidentiality of all clients and information about their businesses.
- Adhere to Center standards for customer service and professionalism.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and polished appearance.
- Assist in building and establishing key stakeholders' relationships, including the SBA, lenders, Chambers of Commerce, and other community partners.
- Promote the Small Business Development Center and the services it offers
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
- Friendly, courteous, service-oriented, and enjoy working with various people.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, both written and oral.
- Strong organization skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple, competing priorities while remaining composed and professional.
- Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail oriented and able to multitask and meet critical deadlines.
- Able to work individually with limited supervision and collaboratively with diverse populations/ groups/ teams.
- Assist in managing Director's calendar/appointments and maintaining the departmental calendar.
- Create agendas, take minutes during meetings, and distribute minutes to participants.
- Enter data and prepare budget reports
- Enter and track departmental purchase requests; process account statements and credit card charges in the tracking system.
- Create internal and external correspondence; distribute departmental information and reminders
- Assist in documenting and tracking projects, ensuring reporting timelines are met.
- Research and compile data for various internal and external reports pertaining to the Workforce Development department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's (or higher) degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of degree
- One (1) year of related work experience
- Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Able to work individually with limited supervision and collaboratively with diverse populations/ groups/ teams
- Manage, organize, and communicate information of varying business complexity
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, both written and oral
- Verified skills in organizing complex systems and effectively managing multiple, competing priorities while remaining composed and professional
- Friendly, courteous, service-oriented, and enjoy working with a variety of people
- Act with discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and able to perform successful internet research.
- Must be dependable
- Aware of and sensitive to cultural differences with the ability to work with and engage individuals of diverse backgrounds
- Ability to maintain effective working relations with college personnel and outside entities
- Must be available to work evenings, and weekends as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in working with small business owners
- Experience in higher education, lending institutions, Chambers of Commerce
- Experience with customer relations and/or project management software
