The Deputy Chief/Support Services serves as second-in-command to the Director Public Safety and has command responsibility over all other members of the campus police department. In conjunction with RISD’s Director/Chief of Public Safety, the Deputy plans, assigns, administers, and supervises the activities of the department’s safety and security operations and plans including but not limited to the institution and maintenance of standard operating procedures which support RISD mission and are in compliance with city, state and federal legislation; developing community educational and department training programs; detective operations; crime prevention safety; emergency management; and conducting and supervising investigations in an effective and sensitive manner. This position is responsible for hiring, training, developing, evaluating, and supervising public safety support service staff, including facility monitors, dispatchers, and ARMS coordinator (s). Oversee records, budgets, and departmental expenditures. Ensure Institutional compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).
This position works closely with a variety of campus offices, such as the Dean of Students Affairs, the Office of Residence Life, and Facilities + EHS. Must have a strong working knowledge of and sensitivity to Title IX incidents and serve as the point of contact for these investigations.
