Overview

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. Since 1985 we have offered high quality medical care, consultation, referral, and emergency veterinary services for the care of dogs, cats and exotic pets. We are currently hiring for a Veterinary Technician to be an intrinsic member of our anesthesia department providing excellence in care to our small animal hospital. The Anesthesia department has over 30 years of experience managing routine to critical cases for surgery, advanced imaging and state of the art procedures. With the opportunity to work with Anesthesiologists and VTS level technicians we welcome applicants of all skill levels and will provide training and mentorship to help you achieve your personal goals.

 


What You'll Do

As a technician on the anesthesia team, you will perform anesthesia of all kinds, manage a busy and diverse caseload as well as support and teach veterinary students. The technician accurately assesses and reports changes in patient parameters and works with students and clinicians on appropriate intervention. Monitor, manage and implement treatment plans as ordered by clinicians. Provide high level technical support for all clinical facets of caring for the animals entrusted to our care. 


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Veterinary technology or a high school diploma (or the equivalent).
  • Minimum three years of veterinary technician experience in a busy fast paced hospital
  • CVT or ability to obtain CVT
  • Proficient skill set in IV catheter placement, Fear Free animal handling and restraint, phlebotomy
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with a professional attitude.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, clinicians, students, staff and pet owners.
  • Must be able to work well independently as well as part of a team with excellent attention to detail.
  • Engaged learner; Highly motivated to improve knowledge base and skill set.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with an emphasis in anesthesia preferred
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology and familiarity with veterinary pharmacology
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in relating to co-workers, clinicians, students, staff and clients.
  • Interest to learn advanced anesthesia practices/protocols/patient assessment
