Departmental Overview

University Health Services (UHS) is a comprehensive campus-based health center providing fully accredited medical and mental health care, education, a major medical insurance plan, and innovative health promotion programs for students, faculty and staff. UHS is deeply committed to ensuring affordable, well-integrated, multidisciplinary healthcare that effectively supports the university's diverse campus communities, through equitable access and culturally competent, high-quality programs and services.

The Clinical Services Program within UHS includes primary care, urgent care, occupational health and specialty clinics, clinical laboratory, pharmacy, physical therapy and radiology. The Radiology department supports the mission of the UHS by providing radiologic facilities for diagnostic purposes to aid clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of injury and illness. Under the direction of the Principal Radiologic Technologist, the per diem Radiologic Technologist performs all types of x-ray examinations, making sure that the final resulting radiographs are of the highest quality in compliance with California Radiation Control Regulations.

I. Radiography and Quality Control
A. Takes all necessary studies and special views upon written request of clinician. Responsible for minimizing the amount of radiation exposure to both him/herself and patient. Employs techniques appropriately, efficiently, and effectively while responding to patient's needs. Processes films and makes duplicates when necessary. Assembles films for interpretation by radiologist.
B. Provides technical consultation to clinical and other radiology staff. Assists in giving results/films to clinicians or clinic.
C. Complies with department quality control and quality assurance monitors. Complies with all regulatory policies and procedures to assure the needs of patient and staff are met.
D. Maintains safety regulations and complies with Hazardous Materials Management Program per campus policy. Wears radiation dosimetry.
E. Performs all paper/computer work required to process patients and keep accurate statistics.
F. Assists with data entry.

II. Communication and Customer Service
A. Demonstrates effective and positive communications. Requests and accepts feedback.
B. Demonstrates courteous and service-oriented behavior at all times when interacting with patients, families and UHS staff.
C. Respects and guards confidentiality with patients and other staff members.
D. Problem solves patient relations: actively addresses complaints, concerns, and suggestions. Identifies and brings to the supervisor any problems that cannot be addressed.
E. Demonstrates sensitivity to patients' concerns, provides sympathetic responses to patients questions.

III. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • Current Certified Radiologic Technologist License issued by the State of California.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to follow written and oral instruction.
  • Excellent customer service and people skills.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and lifestyles.

Salary & Benefits

$46.03 per hour. Not eligible for UC benefits plan.

Other Information

Employment is contingent on successful completion of: Background Check, Acceptable Medical Evaluation that includes infectious disease surveillance and proof of current required vaccinations or immunity levels, and successful credentials verification (if applicable).
