UBIT’s Windows System Administrators creatively use leading-edge technologies along with their knowledge of computing and information systems to build and maintain complex enterprise-level services. These services are essential to our faculty, staff, and students, who use them to fulfill our university’s missions of instruction, research, and public service.
Provide advanced systems support: Support and troubleshoot mission-critical enterprise Microsoft Windows systems and services on a 24×7 basis, and ensure system security and compliance with regulations
Design and implement complex systems and infrastructure: Develop mission-critical enterprise Windows systems
Solve complex systems and service problems: Develop unique approaches to complicated problems where diagnostic data is incomplete, absent, or contradictory, and where there may be no precedent or solution
Provide customer support: Fulfill or deny service requests according to departmental policies and negotiate service provisioning with customers, stakeholders and management
Manage technical projects: Manage projects and provide expert consulting on technical initiatives, facilitate technical discussions among campus IT groups, and proactively assist in budget and service planning
Work as part of a team: Participate in service teams providing 24×7 support; influence work priorities, technical decisions, and operating procedures at the team or project level

Three (3) years of experience in a computer/technical field
System administration and networking including Microsoft Windows Server operating system installation and support, Active Directory, Domain Name Service, TCP/IP, and Network Services, or software development, plus practice in a computing field
Database system management and web server management
Hardware/software firewall management, system monitoring applications, enterprise backup systems, automated patching and software package management, and server security practices and methodologies
Advanced system management concepts such as redundancy, security, high availability, and system integration
Excellent communication skills and customer relations skills. Ability to work and communicate effectively with people having diverse skill levels and varying backgrounds
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (computer science, engineering, etc.)
System administration, analysis, software development, and programming with advanced, large scale systems, preferably at a university
Leading or participating in large projects or teams, including project and risk management methods and techniques
System administration automation and monitoring tools such as Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager, and Endpoint Configuration Manager (formerly System Center Configuration Manager and Systems Management Server)
Virtualization technologies such as VMware, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VMware View or equivalent)
Identity Management Services, including LDAP, Kerberos, or Active Directory; RDBMS (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL or equivalent); transaction processing; Java/XML; Web Servers (IIS, WebLogic, Apache or equivalent)
Cloud architectures such as private cloud, Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS / public cloud), and Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Storage networking technologies including storage management tools. VLAN concepts and load balancing technology.
