This is a one-year limited term appointment. Reporting to the Team Lead of Datacom Services, the Datacom Technician I holds the responsibility to manage the physical cable plant infrastructure, as well as the installation of active data communications and electronic networking equipment in communications rooms and routing hubs. Under close supervision, this position will place and maintain cables in tunnels, crawl spaces, attics, conduit, buried, and aerial as required. In addition, s/he will perform tests on cable for certification and troubleshoot using various equipment such as, Fluke DSX5000, OTDRs, and spectrum analyzers and seek guidance as needed. This position will install and deploy cabling and equipment in accordance with design plans and work orders, and will conduct wireless network field surveys using tools such as the AirMagnet Survey Pro to measure signal strength and to generate wireless "heat maps".
This position is an on-campus position and not eligible for remote work.
