Departmental Overview
The College Relations & Development unit at the College of Chemistry develops and executes alumni relations and fundraising events, communications, and activities to engage the College’s 37,000+ alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. The College Relations & Development Team consists of 8 full-time staff members that develop and implement the College’s major gift fundraising, annual giving programs and campaigns, gift/fund admin and donor acknowledgements and stewardship, marketing and communications, volunteer programs, and events. The College Relations & Development Team annually raises 4,000+ donations totaling $15+ million in support for the College of Chemistry.

The Associate Director of College Relations & Annual Fund Leadership Prospect Pipeline is responsible for designing, developing, and administering communications, events, programs, and personal outreach targeted at engaging students, alumni, parents, corporate partners, and other potential annual fund donors with our College. The Associate Director will engage our community via LinkedIn, signature and special events, and volunteering opportunities, and will personally visit and solicit prospective leadership-level donors for philanthropic donations between $1,000 to $100,000. The Associate Director of College Relations & Annual Fund Leadership Pipeline plays a critical role in our College’s financial strength and future by annually securing $250,000+ in core unrestricted annual fund support and by helping to identify and qualify new prospects for our major gift officers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the membership, content, and value proposition of our college’s online LinkedIn community targeted at increasing engagement and annual giving among our students, alumni, parents, key industries, corporate partners, and donors. Includes developing short and long-term plans to further promote and increase membership, develop greater content creation and sharing through partnering with our Director of Marketing & Communications and by identifying, recruiting, and managing alumni content/industry experts, and increasing the overall value of being a member of our online LinkedIn community.
  • Plans, schedules, and implements college relations and annual fundraising volunteer programs, communications, events, and engagement opportunities. Includes creating and overseeing a Young Alumni Volunteer Committee and potentially a Dean’s Advisory Circle, and organizing volunteer opportunities for students, faculty, alumni, and donors.
  • In partnership with our Events & Campaign Specialist, designs, organizes, and implements special events, including our college’s signature events: ChemX Conference (students, alumni & corporate sponsors), Reunion & Parents Weekend (parents & alumni), Dean’s Dinner Celebrations (donors), and smaller donor/prospect events: ChemX Speaker Series and Corporate, Industry, Regional Events.
  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and/or stewards donors for annual donations between $1,000 to $100,000, with the expectation of securing 5-15 visits per month and raising increasing amounts of core unrestricted annual fund support from each donor/prospect.
  • Ensures that predetermined core unrestricted annual fundraising goals are met, which is to annually raise more than $250,000+ (cash-in) in core unrestricted annual fund support.
  • Provides analysis and information of complex results or activities, and makes recommendations to upper management for program changes or development of new programs as required.
  • Participates in short and long-range strategic planning.
  • Develops strategies within existing policy guidelines.
  • Assists in detailed planning of fund development and annual solicitation programs
  • Coordinates and oversees the work of colleagues, support staff, work-study students, volunteers, and/or other professionals.
    Required Qualifications
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of annual to leadership-level fundraising and college (student-alumni-parent-corporate-donor) relations concepts, principles, techniques, procedures, and practices – particularly in developing and orchestrating communications, events, programs, and an online community via LinkedIn.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, particularly with working professionals and academics, via LinkedIn and professional networking events.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the campus, particularly STEM and professional fields, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, et cetera.
  • Thorough written, oral, and communication skills, including ability to develop and convey compelling cases for philanthropic support, and political acumen to build and maintain effective working relationship at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
  • Thorough analytical and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution.
  • Thorough project management skills.
  • Skills to meet or exceed fundraising goals and objectives, including ability to secure visits, discuss engagement opportunities and philanthropic priorities, and solicit for specific amounts core unrestricted annual fund support.
  • Self-motivated and goal driven.
  • Highly organized and flexible, and capable of working in a high performance small shop where everyone is expected to multi-task, manage time diligently, and achieve expected results.

Education/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (2+ years of experience in annual or leadership level fundraising; student-alumni-parent-corporate-donor relations).

Salary & Benefits
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. Annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $90,000-$105,000.
