St. Lawrence University invites applications for a Network and Systems Administrator. The Network and Systems Administrator is a member of the Infrastructure Systems team within the Information Technology Division. This position plays a critical role in the installation, administration and maintenance of network and systems infrastructure, operating systems, software, user account maintenance as well as contributing to the overall Information Technology team effort. The IT division is committed to fostering growth and development of its people. May consider elevated position scope for a candidate with strong technical skills and experience who have the ability to advance.
Collaborate with teammates to resolve and manage service requests.
Create, administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
Contribute to improving our internal processes by making decisions on and creating new and update existing documentation of services and procedures.
Partner with faculty and staff to implement projects from beginning to end while managing scope and timeline requiring critical communication and decision making skills.
Participate in making decisions and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and solutions in conjunction with end-user needs and University priorities.
Implement, configure and maintain server related software that may include but is not limited to; Microsoft Server stack, CentOS, MS SQL.
Implement, configure and maintain network infrastructure that may include but is not limited to; Juniper switches and routers, Palo Alto Security appliances, Aruba wireless controllers and access points.
Participate in and responsible for daily operating procedures to include; security administration and user access, data backup and restore, system monitoring, event management, and preventative maintenance.
Develop and maintain scripts in PowerShell, as well as other scripting languages to support operating procedures and create efficiencies.
The strongest candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of experience in information technology. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education or relevant technology certification(s) and experience will also be considered.
System-level familiarity with Windows, Linux or Macintosh operating systems.
Expertise with any one or more of the following required; Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange/Lync/Skype, Microsoft 365 and Teams, Azure / AWS cloud infrastructure, SQL, Identity and Access Management, Data Governance, Data Analytics, TeamDynamix, Rubrik, Juniper, Aruba, Palo Alto, server/desktop virtualization, storage infrastructure, scripting languages.
Strong professional ethics and commitment to security and confidentiality.
Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as network and server equipment may be required.
