Auburn University seeks a non-tenure track faculty administrator to serve as Associate Director of University Writing. This is a continuing, 12-month, non-tenure track position with benefits and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This position reports to the Director of University Writing. University Writing was established in 2010 under the Office of the Provost to coordinate the university-wide initiative to improve writing and writing instruction at Auburn. Programs and services include writing-focused faculty development, the Miller Writing Center (MWC), and WE Write a new writing enriched (WE) curriculum project. As a member of the University Writing administrative team, the Associate Director plays a crucial role in directing the MWC, including consultant processional development and center operations.
We seek an individual with experience supporting undergraduate and graduate student writiers and peer consultants, who come from diverse disciplinary, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. Therefore, candidates should be able to contribute to a key value and outcome in University Writing: creating a welcoming learning and working environment for members of marginalized communities. Primary responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations of the MWC, continuing training and professional development for peer consultants, hiring peer consultants at least once a year, and working closely with the Program Administrator on scheduling. In collaboration with the administrative team, the Associate Director is also responsible for monitoring assessment data and generating appropriate reports, setting priorities for expanded services, working with campus partners, and monitoring the support provided to students across modalities. We expect the individual in this position to be involved in and able to represent Auburn’s writing program at regional and national conferences and to have a demonstrated professional interest in the larger conversations about writing center pedagogy and administration.
