Overview

The Center for Applied Brain and Cognitive Sciences (CABCS) is seeking a Senior Research Coordinator to work with CABCS PIs on ongoing research projects related to augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). Our work lies at the interface of Cognitive Science, Computer Science, and Human-Computer Interaction and aims to study how AR/VR interface choices can aid (or hinder) navigation, decision making, and perception for individuals and small groups. Under supervision of Principal Investigators, this position will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively to develop and execute technically rigorous human subjects research.

 

This is a one year limited term appointment with the opportunity of possible renewal based on funding and continued successful performance in the role.


What You'll Do

• Under general supervision of Principal Investigators, the Senior Research Coordinator executes study protocols in the area of human perception, cognition, and human-computer interaction recommending modifications where needed
• Assists and independently leads software development of AR/VR experimental tasks using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies and commercial and open source software packages
• Coordinates and tracks recruitment, screening, scheduling, consenting, and compensation of study participants
• Assists in preparing human use protocols for initial/continuing reviews, manuscript preparation, and data presentation at professional conferences and meetings
• Monitors study related supplies and equipment
• Independently execute data collection with specialized equipment, to include COTS (AR/VR) headsets, eye-tracking, biosensors, etc.
• Organize and prepare study data; assist in data analysis using a variety of software platforms
• Assists in CABCS tours and demonstrations for visitors and collaborators


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

 

• BA or BS in computer science, cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, or related field
• Knowledge and experience as typically acquired by a Bachelor's degree and 2+ years’ experience in a clinical research setting.
• Some experimental background and experience working in a laboratory setting conducting human subjects research and/or user experience testing
• Programming experience across a variety of programming languages
• Strong research interest in the area of AR/VR

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Comfortable working on projects with military and defense implications, including working directly with military personnel to collect data, and working with and managing military tools (airsoft rifles, body armor, backpacks).
• MA or MS preferred
• Strong experimental background and lab experience
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
• AR/VR programming experience using commercial development software and technologies (ex. HTC Vive, Microsoft HoloLens, ARCore, ARKit, Vuforia)
• Experience and training with eye tracking equipment
• Experience with data analysis programs and software such as R, Excel, SPSS, MATLAB, Tableau
• Prior experience mentoring undergraduate research assistants is also ideal
