Overview

The Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (HNRCA) investigators conduct advanced studies on nutrition and aging.  Their research focuses on determining the optimal nutrient profile necessary to promote well-being for older adults.  HNRCA scientists examine how nutrition plays a major role in the prevention of the major chronic degenerative conditions and diseases associated with aging.

 

The HNRCA is operated by Tufts University through a cooperative agreement with the Agricultural Research Service (ARS).  Located adjacent to the Tufts University Health Science campus in Boston, Massachusetts, the HNRCA is one of six human nutrition research centers in the United States supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

 

The HNRCA Administration Team provides administrative and budget management support to the research laboratories at the HNRCA. Each member of the core has a varied portfolio of investigators/laboratories that he or she works with to further the research objectives of the Center.


What You'll Do

Reporting to the Associate Director of Research Administration, the Administrative Coordinator works under minimal supervision and serves in a highly visible capacity for the department providing advanced administrative support, overseeing office operations and serving as the primary departmental resource contact with students, staff, investigators, and other constituents.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Act as the first point of contact to triage phone calls, prioritize mail and calendar management
  • Brief faculty or managers on issues needing immediate attention
  • Handle complex and confidential situations and requests
  • Evaluate workflow and productivity, to provide direction and guidance to office staff
  • Produce and draft reports and other complex documents and materials, including proofreading and editing, designing layout and graphics for brochures and presentations
  • Submit information on scientific manuscripts according to ARS requirements
  • Monitor and track expenditures, resolve problems and report on department budget and/or grants
  • Plan and coordinate logistics for meetings and special events, including contacting speakers, designing promotional material and coordinating support for speakers and presenters
  • Participate on committees including collecting agenda items, preparing and disseminating agendas, preparing minutes, etc.
  • Assist with department budget planning and/or grants

 


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a High school diploma/GED and 5+ years of administrative experience OR a Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including word processing, editing and graphics functions, spreadsheet and database knowledge
  • Bookkeeping or basic accounting knowledge and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
